Bathroom Upgrade Trends 2026: Rain Showers, Concealed Cisterns and Touchless Taps

Bathroom Upgrade Trends 2026 illustration
Quick answer: Rain showers need good water pressure, concealed cisterns need a service-access panel, and touchless taps need protected power in a wet zone with RCD protection. Plan pipes and wiring first, then waterproofing, then tiling, then fixtures.

Modern bathrooms are moving to rain showers, concealed cisterns, touchless taps and smart storage. They look great, but each one has a plumbing and an electrical checklist that is easy to miss.

ServiceTitan's 2026 trends report points to growing demand for connected and touchless fixtures, alongside water-conscious upgrades. Here is what each popular upgrade needs behind the wall.

The 2026 bathroom wish list

Each bathroom upgrade has a plumbing and an electrical checklist.

Rain shower

  • Needs adequate water pressure. A big head on a weak supply feels like drizzle.
  • Check pressure from your tank or booster pump before choosing the head size.
  • Pair with a good-quality mixer and proper waterproofing behind the tiles.

Concealed cistern

  • The cistern sits inside the wall, with a dual-flush plate on the surface. Clean lines and easier cleaning.
  • Needs a service access behind the plate so the valve and float can be reached later.
  • Quality of the internal parts matters more than usual, since they are hidden.

Touchless taps

  • Hygienic and water-saving, since water runs only when needed.
  • They need power from batteries or an adaptor. Any wiring near a basin must be properly protected: use suitable water-resistant fittings and RCD protection.
  • Do not run an ordinary socket or loose adaptor cable near the basin.

Bidet spray and hand shower

Standard in Pakistani bathrooms and still the best value upgrade. Use a quality flexible hose with a proper isolating valve so you can stop the water without closing the whole line.

Electrical checks for any bathroom upgrade

  1. Switch and light fittings suitable for damp areas.
  2. An exhaust fan to control humidity and mould.
  3. Geyser connections and earthing checked and rated properly.
  4. RCD protection on bathroom circuits.
  5. No sockets within easy reach of the shower or basin spray.

Plan the order of work

Pipes and wiring first, then waterproofing, then tiling, then fixtures. Fixing a leak or a loose wire behind finished tiles costs far more than checking before tiling starts.
